Guide to Wales's hills & mountains

Twyn Ceilog photo

Twyn Ceiliog

This rather modest pile of stones marks a turning point on the boundary between Blaenau Gwent Unitary Authority and the county of Powys. In itself, this would be of no interest: but in "The Hewitts and Marilyns of Wales" by Alan Dawson (1997), it is quoted as the County Top (i.e. highest point) of Caerphilly. Only early metric OS maps (say, in the decade following the 1974 upheaval) showed boundaries supporting this. But I have been unable to establish whether this was an OS error, or there was a change to the boundaries after 1974, but before 1998 (when a further set of changes took place).
